Generating memories one gear at a time.

Dr. Cog is a completely free game that released on Steam Monday 12/16. The premise behind the game is that you are working at a hospital/research facility that functions to restore lost memories. They do this via a machine that harnesses core feelings to recreate these memories.

The gameplay can be a little confusing to begin, I go over the core mechanics in the YouTube video. The gears that are in your deck get attached to the main gear in order to contribute to your memory production. Each gear has a value that is summed into either the clockwise or counter-clockwise value. After a full cycle of the central gear, you produce memory equal to your two values multiplied. So if you have 4 on your clockwise and 1 on your counter-clockwise and go to place a new gear, placing it on counter-clockwise will give you a better multiplier score because otherwise it would still be your clockwise multiplied by 1.

The gear types each have an attribute and age range and there are bonuses for utilizing different gears with the same attribute/age.

The only real complaint I had with this game was the lack of a save feature so you can come back to a run after taking a break. Otherwise I found the game to be very enjoyable.

Ratings

Enjoyment – 5

As previously stated, I enjoyed this game a lot. There are enough different gear combinations to work toward that each run felt different of the five I have done so far.

Grind – 2

Not being able to save is brutal because any time you shut the game off you are committing to starting over.

Price – 5

It’s FREE! No cost, no battlepass, no way to pay for advantages or cosmetics. Just a game you can sit down with and enjoy without any cost.

Draw – 5

I have already played Dr. Cog a few times since recording the review, and plan to try to play through to the end so I know what kind of play time the game has while not having any save system.

Total – 17/20

Highest score so far!! Out of two games, but still. Go try it!
